Boracay- In preparation for the upcoming hosting of ASEAN, the Department of Tourism Region VI, under its Tourism Industry Skills Program (TISP), successfully conducted capacity development trainings for tour guides based in Boracay Island — the Spiels Development Training held on February 17-18, 2026 and Seminar on Protocol, Social Graces, and Etiquette conducted on February 19-20, 2026.

The intensive training was designed to further elevate the professionalism, communication skills, and cultural competence of Boracay’s tourism frontliners. As primary ambassadors of the destination, tour guides play a vital role in shaping visitors’ experiences, particularly during high-level international gatherings where precision, decorum, and service excellence are paramount.

Guided by the expertise of Dr. Sheila Viesca, the program covered advanced spiels development, proper protocol in handling dignitaries and official delegations, as well as essential social graces and etiquette aligned with international standards. Through structured lectures, practical exercises, and interactive sessions, participants refined their delivery skills, enhanced their confidence, and strengthened their understanding of diplomatic and professional conduct.

The successful completion of this training underscores DOT Region VI’s commitment to ensuring that Boracay Island remains not only a premier leisure destination, but also a capable and polished host for major international events. By investing in the continuous development of its tourism workforce, the region reaffirms its readiness to welcome ASEAN delegates and guests with professionalism, warmth, and world-class Filipino hospitality.
