Team Philippines won silver in the World Beach Ultimate Championship

BORACAY Island, Aklan- The Philippine National Team won a silver medal in the recently concluded World Beach Ultimate Championship held in Huntington Beach, California, USA.

The international championship was composed of 15 teams coming from all over the world. Some of the Philippine team players hail from this resort island.

Junthir Flores, a member of the Philippine team, said that aside from the silver medal, the Philippine team also bags more awards, such as fourth place in the Women’s Division, fifth place in the Mixed Masters, and another fifth place in the Men’s Open Division.

“We won silver in the Grandmasters Open Division,” Flores told the Boracay Island News Network (The BINN).

Prior to competing against the gold medalist USA Team, the Philippine Team had won against the national teams of Canada and Japan. Some of the members of the Philippine National Team was from the Boracay Dragon Frisbee Team.

“I would like to thank all the people around the world who supported Team Philippines at the WFDF World Beach Ultimate Championships sa mga Filipino community na pumunta at nagdala ng mga foods para sa amin, sa mga nag puyat para manuod sa Pinas…especially to our GOD the FATHER Thank you very much! Silver Medal for you, mahal kong bansang PILIPINAS ang panalo na to ay panalo ng bawat Pilipino,” he said in his Facebook post.

The BINN learned that Huntington Beach is hosting this year’s WFDF World Beach Ultimate Championships—the first-ever in the US. Beach Ultimate (formerly known as Ultimate Frisbee) is a fast-paced, 5v5 team sport where teams try to catch a pass in the opposite end zone to score a goal.

The team Philippines is now on their way home and is expected to reach Manila by November 12.
