The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bugallon, Pangasinan led by its Mayor, Hon. Priscilla “Mely” Espino, gave the greenlight to PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC)’s 25 MW DC Bugallon Solar Power Project. Mayor Espino and the Sangguniang Bayan issued the project’s
locational clearance to PGEC last November 14, 2023 and the corresponding pre-construction building permit will be issued in time for the target start of development in January 2024.

The Bugallon Solar Power Project will be located in a 25-hectare site in Brgy. Salomague Sur,Bugallon, Pangasinan and is expected to supply clean and renewable power in the area by last quarter of 2024. Upon operation, the facility is expected to generate 41,000 MWh of power
annually and to reduce carbon emissions by 29,056 metric tons.”

Mayor Espino and the Sangguniang Bayan of Bugallon had earlier issued a Resolution Interposing No Objection on the renewable energy project. “We are grateful, and we welcome this much needed investment by PetroGreen here in our locality that will not only add to our
power supply, but will also contribute green jobs, social upliftment, and fiscal benefits to Bugallon and to Pangasinan province,” expressed Mayor Espino.

“If PGEC has other upcoming RE projects, they can bring and develop them here in our town,” added Mayor Espino.
PGEC’s Atty Roberto Santos declared, “We are very pleased with the full support extended by Mayor Espino, the Sanggunian Bayan, and the entire host community of Bugallon. Such commitment from local governments is vital so that the investments and efforts of the private sector and the Marcos Jr administration to increase the country’s renewable energy supply eventually succeed.”

Last year, PGEC has secured approvals from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for its two new solar power projects in Pangasinan and Bohol. The approved projects are the 25-megawatt (MW)-dc Bugallon project in Pangasinan and the 27MWdc Dagohoy project in Bohol.“Our final investment decision now awaits the closing of ongoing discussions with selected contractors and project lender,” PetroEnergy Resources Corporation (PERC) AVP Maria Victoria Olivar said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Olivar added that the local governments of the two provinces have granted resolutions of support for the solar projects. PERC president Milagros Reyes said that the two new solar projects help expand PetroGreen Energy’s renewable energy assets as it tones down its upstream petroleum operations and shift to RE in the near future. These new projects not only contribute to the government’s goal of increasing RE’s share in our generation mix but will also provide fresh investments and critical power supply in two (2) high-growth areas of the country – Bohol, and Pangasinan,” Reyes added.(PR)
