Cebu City- A doctor has gone viral after photos and videos of her roadside delivery during the recent Cebu earthquake spread across social media. What the public soon discovered made her story even more remarkable: the courageous physician is also a Commissioned Officer in the Reserve Force.
The doctor, Captain Gracita Rabago (Res), was on 24-hour duty as a junior OB-Gyne consultant at Cebu City Medical Center when the earthquake struck. As the hospital was ordered to evacuate, Rabago and her OB team faced a difficult situation. Three patients were already in active labor.
One mother, too far along in labor to be moved, was brought outside near the Bureau of Fire Protection building. With no choice but to proceed, Rabago calmly delivered the baby on the roadside.
Complicating the scene further, rain began to pour heavily. Nursing students quickly formed a shield of umbrellas over the mother and newborn.
Moments later, a babyโs cry pierced through the chaos โ both mother and child were safe.
Her bravery quickly captured the public’s attention. Online, she was hailed as a hero, not only for her medical skills but for her selfless dedication.
Colleagues noted that her composure and leadership during the crisis reflected her dual training as a doctor and a soldier. Both professions, they said, are built on discipline, sacrifice, and a mission to protect life.
