Aklan is on a winning streak. The province recorded a remarkable 6.0% economic growth in 2024, making it the fastest-growing province in Western Visayas, according to the latest Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Aklan report released this October 2025. This growth not only surpassed Capiz (5.0%) and Antique (4.4%) but also outperformed the national economy’s 5.7% expansion — and landed squarely within the government’s target of 6.0% to 6.5% for the year.
Aklan’s GDP climbed to ₱73.86 billion in 2024, a strong jump from ₱69.68 billion in 2023 and ₱63.5 billion in 2022. This consistent upward trajectory reflects a resilient and evolving economy that is no longer fueled solely by tourism, but by an expanding portfolio of industries and opportunities.

New Growth Engines Powering Aklan’s Economy
While Boracay continues to attract millions of tourists, Aklan’s economy is now driven by diverse and dynamic sectors. PSA data reveals that the fastest-growing industries in 2024 were:
• 🏥 Human Health Activities – Aklan is fast becoming a center for medical and wellness services, serving not just residents but also patients and retirees from across the region.
• ⚡️ Electricity, Steam, Water, and Waste Management – Renewable power sources are rising, with hydro and wind energy already generating clean electricity. These early investments prove that Aklan can be a leader in sustainable power, but much more can still be done to expand renewables and secure the province’s energy future.
• 🛍️ Wholesale and Retail Trade – With a consumer-driven economy and rising incomes, new shopping hubs, logistics centers, and modern retail complexes are emerging as strategic growth drivers for the province.
A Visionary Path Forward
Aklan’s transformation from a tourism giant to a multisector economic hub reflects the bold vision and steady leadership of its policymakers and local government officials. Their focus on infrastructure, business-friendly policies, and strategic planning has laid the groundwork for long-term stability and investor confidence.
The future is bright. As Aklan continues to invest in renewable energy, healthcare services, logistics, and consumer-oriented development, it is poised to become not just a top tourism destination — but a vibrant economic powerhouse in the heart of Western Visayas.
