San Lorenzo, Guimaras- Championing children’s rights and welfare, DOLE RO 6 through its Guimaras Field Office provided livelihood to 29 parents of child laborers from Brgy. Constancia, San Lorenzo, Guimaras. They are part of the 45 beneficiaries who benefitted from the
Php1.3M livelihood assistance. The livelihood assistance were livestock raising and retail business projects of the beneficiaries. The individual category projects include cattle raising, native raising production, hog raising, broiler chicken raising, goat raising and sari-sari store.
“Poverty is the menace that pushes the children to engage in child labor; it is the same poverty that deprive the children of their right to proper education and steal the children’s privileges to enjoy as a child,” said Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr, who underlined the importance of livelihood in fighting poverty.
Atty. Rodriguez calls on the beneficiaries to sustain and improve the inputs provided to them and he is positive that through proper monitoring and guidance the livelihood projects could help alleviate the beneficiaries from poverty and allow their children to go
to school.
