DSWD-WV underscores role of media in the delivery of government services

ILOILO City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development- Western Visayas has expressed its gratitude to the members in the media in the region due to their crucial role in information dissemination.

Speaking to reporters, Ma. Evelyn Macapobre, DSWD-WV said that the regional department has received the highest ratings among other departments in the country.

“Year 2021 has been very challenging to the DSWD because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the super typhoon Agaton among others. Nevertheless, we delivered successfully because of the help of the media,” Macapobre said.

Macapobre said that to avoid confusion among the public, they have opened their lines to the members of the media 24/7 to ensure that everyone understood their services. “The media upon learning of issues in the barangays. They immediately bring these concerns to our attention which in turn greatly helps in achieving our goals,” she said.

Recently, several residents in the region have complained that some political candidates are allegedly threatening them to be removed from their 4Ps pension if they will not vote for certain candidates. “As a result, we immediately corrected the concern raised by the media and explained that politics is never part of the process of the 4Ps program,” she said.

For her part, Assistant Regional Director for Administration Delia V. Bagolcol also shared the insights of Macapobre.

“This is especially true during Covid-19 pandemic wherein everyone seems afraid to come out physically due to the series of lockdowns and quarantines. The media has served as our bridge in disseminating indeed information to the public,” she said.
