Kalibo, Aklan โ€“ The Department of Trade and Industry – Aklan Provincial Office, in partnership with JJC Aklan and JCI Aklan Kalantiao along with other event sponsors, officially launched its Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) 2026 celebration through the successful conduct of the Consumer Run 2026 on 3 October 2026, in Kalibo, Aklan. A total of 469 runners from various sectors across the province gathered in a vibrant display of support for consumer awareness,
empowerment, and healthy living.

The Consumer Run served as the kick-off activity for DTI Aklan’s month-long observance of Consumer Welfare Month, with the theme, โ€œSafe Products, Confident Consumers,โ€ bringing together the general consumers, government employees, business establishments, students, advocacy groups, running enthusiasts and families who collectively championed the importance of safe and responsible consumerism.

“Through activities such as the Consumer Run, we aim to bring consumer welfare closer to the public and strengthen awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities. The overwhelming participation of registered runners also reflects the growing commitment of our community to become more informed and empowered consumers,” says DTI-Aklan OIC Provincial Director Grace M. Benedicto.

The successful turnout also underscored the strong collaboration among government agencies, private sector partners, civil society organizations, and consumer advocates in advancing the goals of Consumer Welfare Month.

Moreover, as the celebration continues throughout October, DTI-Aklan has lined up a series of activities designed to promote consumer education, advocacy, and engagement, namely:
โ€ข Aklan Consumer Congress 2.0 (Friday, 9 October, via Zoom)
โ€ข 2026 Aklan Consumer Cup Quiz Bee (Saturday, 17 October, at Citymall Kalibo)

These upcoming activities will strengthen DTI-Aklanโ€™s advocacy on consumer protection through stakeholder engagements and participation of various groups that encourage the public to exercise their rights, make informed choices, and actively participate in building a fair and competitive marketplace.

Consumer Welfare Month is observed every October pursuant to Proclamation No. 1098, highlighting the vital role of consumers in economic development and promoting the rights and welfare of the Filipino consumer.

With the successful Consumer Run 2026 setting the tone for the month-long celebration, DTI-Aklan reaffirms its commitment to delivering programs and services that protect consumer interests and promote a more informed, vigilant, and empowered consuming public.
