KALIBO, Aklan-In preparation for the holiday season, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) issued the 2024 Noche Buena Price Guide last November 15, 2024 and will be effective until December 31, 2024 or Media Noche.
There are 12 categories included in the price guide to be monitored by the DTI: ham, keso de bola, fruit cocktail, cheese, sandwich spread, all purpose cream, mayonnaise, pasta, elbow macaroni, salad macaroni, spaghetti sauce and tomato sauce. Most of these products have significantly increased in prices compared to last year’s price guide. These are due to the surge of prices in raw materials and packaging requirements thereby affecting the cost of production of the manufacturers. But also note, that there are certain products like cheese and sandwich spread which prices remain unchanged. There are also certain brands of mayonnaise, pasta, elbow and salad macaroni and all-purpose cream which prices decrease compared to last year’s price guide.
The price guide intends to help the consumers in planning for their holiday season purchases by providing different options of Noche Buena products to choose from. The DTI continues to emphasize the consumers’ right to make informed choices and the importance of exercising their right to choose (choice) and their responsibility to compare (critical awareness). This involves making sure that they check the labels, prices, and quality of the products and to compare available brands to make the most of their holiday groceries.
Should you encounter any overpriced Noche Buena products, you may contact the DTI Consumer Care Hotline at 1-384 or send an email at ConsumerCare@dti.gov.ph.
