Davao City- February, the second and briefest month of the calendar year, is widely regarded as the Month of Lovers. This is understandable, given that Valentine’s Day falls on the 14th of February. The feast day commemorating the third-century Roman saint has long been associated with a tradition of courtly romance.
The Philippines is no exception when it comes to the observance of Valentine’s Day. In schools, shopping malls, offices, and hotels, the occasion is celebrated – although it is not designated as a legal public holiday. Love conquers all, and it is indeed a multifaceted phenomenon, though at times enigmatic.
Love is a serious thing. William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights come to mind. But love can also be funny and joyful. Again, Shakespeare’s As You Like It is a testament to that.
Love is a celebration of the emotional bond between two individuals. However, this does not imply that it should not be taken lightly. In this vein, the Grand Regal Hotel marked Valentine’s Day with an atmosphere of joy and laughter. Rather than a candlelit dinner and the playing of love songs, the event was characterized by a more lighthearted and convivial ambiance.
The evening was characterized not only by its romantic undertones but also by a delightful atmosphere filled with laughter and entertaining performances. The audience was treated to a series of uproarious comedy acts presented by some of the nation’s top comedic talents.

The formidable tandem Manay Kinita and Shamcey took the stage as the opening act. This duo has become synonymous with comedy in Davao, earning a reputation as the finest in the city.
Although the event was centered around comedy, it certainly did not lack culinary offerings. Attendees were delighted with a selection of delectable dishes, including Thai red curry beef, panko-crusted chicken fillet, and roast pork loin. The buffet’s highlight was the classic shrimp marinara, which complemented the exquisite dinner spread.
The Grand Pilipinas Ballroom, an elegant venue for the show, was brimming with enthusiastic couples, families, and friends eagerly awaiting each punchline that sent them into fits of laughter.
Headlining the dinner event, comedian Negi rose to the occasion, earning every bit of the thunderous applause from the delighted audience. His recent nomination for the Best Game Show Host at the 38th Star Awards for Television, alongside the well-known Luis “Lucky” Manzano, is a significant achievement.
Negi captivated audiences with his humorous yet relatable observations on family dynamics, relationships, and the unavoidable anxieties of life, all delivered with a lighthearted touch. His wit and charm were further enhanced by the equally entertaining performances of Pepay and Jewel.
Grand Regal expressed its gratitude to the event’s sponsors: Golden Touch, represented by Noel Tanza; K Events, led by Korine Navarro; Floral Pink Designs, created by Wendell Gartes; MAV Events, managed by Mitch Villadolid; and Maria Amor for Events, organized by Ms. A.
Until next Valentine’s Day!—###
