GSIS ready to grant emergency loans to members, pensioners affected by May may, Habagat

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is ready to extend emergency loans to members and pensioners affected by Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), once their areas are officially declared under a state of calamity.

Eligible members and pensioners with existing emergency loans may borrow up to P40,000, which will be used to settle their outstanding emergency loan balance, with the remaining amount released to the borrower. Those without existing emergency loans may avail of up to P20,000.

To qualify, active members must reside or work in a declared calamity area, be in active service and not on leave of absence without pay, have no pending administrative or criminal case, have paid premiums within the last six months prior to application, and maintain a net take-home pay of at least P5,000 after loan deductions, as required under the General Appropriations Act.

Old-age and disability pensioners residing in declared calamity areas may also apply, provided their resulting net monthly pension after loan deduction is at least 25% of their basic monthly pension.

The GSIS Emergency Loan carries an interest rate of 6% per annum and is payable over three years.

Applications may be filed anytime and anywhere through the GSIS Touch mobile app, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
