KALIBO, Aklan- For many of us, we earn money to save for the future, buy and invest in cars, properties, and businesses, and possibly make an empire. But for these two Akeanons, life is only temporary, and what is important to them is that they go straight to heaven when their time comes.

One of them is Tommy Mopia,an Ilonggo by blood who lived and was raised in Makato, Aklan. He was recently named one of the most influential Filipino-Americans in Los Angeles, California, USA.Mopia, when coming home to Makato, lived in the bungalow house where he was raised.

Beside their house was a basketball court for young people whom he donated—wider and bigger than his bungalow. Nearby to his home was also a school building he also funded, coming straight from his personal pocket.

“I am not fond of living in big houses. What I want is a simple life focusing on helping people as much as possible,” he told the Boracay Island News Network.

For years, he has silently helped the people of Makato.

Currently, he is planning to help the entire Aklan province by using his influence and bringing in big investors.

Aside from Mopia, another Akeanon is known to many as Maria Damian (Maria Theresa Quimora in real life). Damian hails from Barangay Estancia, Aklan, and is also known in Los Angeles, California, for working in the health industry.

Damian was a breast cancer survivor.

Thankfully, she has been given a chance to live a second life as a survivor. She continued her passion to help people and transformed herself into a philanthropist.

But while Mopia wanted to focus on Aklan to bring in investments, Damian had different plans for the province.

She said that she wanted the province to become known not only as an investment haven but also because she has a dream of making Aklan the center of the entertainment industry in Panay Island-ala Hollywood style.

Damian, together with Mopia, has served as executive producers of several concerts and entertainment productions in Los Angeles in partnership with both ABS-CBN and GMA artists.

Both of them will also serve as stars in the Netflix movie ‘No Room for Love.’ Damian currently served as the CEO of the Legacy Entertainment in California.
