Iloilo City is steadily gaining recognition as an emerging cruise tourism destination following a successful site inspection by French cruise company Compagnie du Ponant earlier this year.

After experiencing the cityโ€™s rich heritage, historical attractions, and diverse culinary scene during their January visit, the company returned to Iloilo on May 16-18, 2026 for a photo and video shoot aimed at showcasing the city to the international cruise market.

The initiative is expected to strengthen Iloilo Cityโ€™s position as a potential stop in Southeast Asian cruise itineraries, highlighting its cultural landmarks, historic sites, and vibrant local flavors to a global audience.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez emphasized that the project provides a significant opportunity for Iloilo to further promote its tourism offerings and reinforce its standing as a premier destination in the Philippines.

โ€œMV Pacific Venus was the first cruise ship that docked in Iloilo, and we believe it will not be the last,โ€ Rodriguez said. She added that the strong collaboration between public and private stakeholders continues to pave the way for Iloiloโ€™s goal of becoming a recognized cruise ship destination.

The Department of Tourism Region VI, in partnership with the Iloilo City Government, facilitated the photo and video shoot as part of ongoing efforts to promote Iloilo City as a potential cruise destination in Compagnie du Ponantโ€™s Southeast Asia itinerary.
