Kalibonhon is Bronze Awardee on Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO) 2022 Heat Round

KALIBO, Aklan- A Kalibo resident student studying at the Philippine Science High School—Western Visayas in Iloilo was one of the bronze medalists of the recently concluded Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO) 2022 Heat Round.

Joachim Chad Avelino, of Kalibo, Aklan, was among the Bronze medalists of the group of five students coming from the same school. His companions were Amirah Collen Tionko, Eil Jo Presanto, Leimar Magno, and Lance Zedrick Azotes.

“The Philippine Science High School System commends the students and coaches of PSHS-Western Visayas Campus for winning 24 awards in the Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO) 2022 Heat Round. We are proud of you! Soar High PISAY Iloilo,” the Facebook post from their school indicates.

The Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO) is an International Science Competition held annually around the world. It consists of four main categories: Physics, Biology, Chemistry & Integrated Science.

HKISO is for students from Grade 2 to Grade 12. It follows closely with the Hong Kong School Science Syllabus and tests what students have learned at their level of content. This allows participants to prepare well in different categories by knowing their strengths and weaknesses.

Winners from the HKISO heat round can have a chance to work with participants from different regions to try out some experiments altogether in Singapore or Hong Kong, alternatively.
