
Cagayqn de Oro- More than 108,000 active members and old-age and disability pensioners affected by recent calamities may avail themselves of the Government Service Insurance Systemโs (GSIS) โฑ2.64-billion emergency loan program. The program is aimed at providing immediate financial relief and helping families recover from disruptions to their livelihood and daily expenses.
In Sorsogon, a total of 12,909 members and pensioners affected by various calamities will benefit from nearly โฑ319 million in emergency loans allocated by GSIS. Applications are open until May 15.
In Cagayan, which is facing the effects of El Niรฑo, a total of 31,566 members and pensioners may avail of the loan until May 31. GSIS made available almost โฑ733 million in emergency loans for said area.
Meanwhile, GSIS allotted nearly โฑ891 million for 36,396 members and pensioners in Davao de Oro and Surigao del Sur affected by severe flooding caused by torrential rains and Typhoon โBasyang.โ Applications will be accepted until May 9.
In Davao del Norte, where flooding and landslides affected communities, GSIS allocated โฑ696.6 million for 27,588 members and pensioners. The application period runs until June 3.
The emergency loan aims to provide immediate financial relief and help affected families recover and regain stability.
Qualified applicants include active members working or residing in calamity-declared areas. They must not be on leave without pay, must have no pending administrative or criminal case, and must maintain a net take-home pay of at least โฑ5,000 after deductions.
Old-age and disability pensioners may also apply, provided they retain at least 25 percent of their monthly pension after loan amortization. The loan is payable in 36 monthly installments at 6 percent annual interest. It comes with a two-month grace period before the first deduction and includes loan redemption insurance.
Members and pensioners with existing emergency loan balances may borrow up to โฑ40,000 to pay off previous balances and receive a maximum net amount of โฑ20,000. Those without existing emergency loans may borrow up to โฑ20,000.
Applications may be filed through the GSIS Touch mobile app, with proceeds credited directly to the borrowerโs ATM account.
