

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) today announced the arrest of an individual by the NBI- Easter Visayas Regional Office (NBI-EVRO) in Abuyog, Leyte for illegal practice of dentistry.
NBI Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Director Eric B. Distor identified the subject as ALVIN SY y CAMINONG.
Director Distor said that NBI-EVRO received an information regarding an individual is practicing dentistry in Albuyog, Leyte without proper government license. Acting on the said information, NBI-EVRO conducted a surveillance operation on the said area and discovered that Subject Sy is practicing dentistry for a fee in his residence in Brgy. Nalibunan, Albayog, Leyte.
NBI-EVRO requested certification from the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) in Manila regarding with the subject’s practice of dentistry. According to the certificate issued by the PRC, Subject Sy does not appear in their database as a registered dentist duly authorized to practice Dentistry in the Philippines.
Thus, on February 2, 2022, NBI-EVRO proceeded to the residence of the subject for an entrapment operation. Two (2) of the agents of NBI-EVRO posed as patients, and after the dental service was rendered to one of the undercover agents, the NBI-EVRO operatives announced their authority and demanded from the subject his PRC ID and other documents pertaining to his practice of dentistry but the subject failed to show any. Thus, NBI-EVRO operatives apprehended Subject Sy and was brought to the NBI office where he undergone standard booking proceedings.
Violation of Article 5, Section 33 of R.A. 9484 “otherwise known as the Philippine Dental Act of 2007” will be filed against the subject.
