New funding and mentorship opportunities open for researchers in Antique and Aklan

KALIBO, Aklan- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Western Visayas, in partnership with the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), successfully rolled out the 2026 Tapping and Reaching Academic Institutions for NRCP (TRAIN) Membership Campaign in two state universities in the region.

The two-day TRAIN Membership Campaign, held at Aklan State University (ASU)-Banga Campus and at the University of Antique (UA)-Sibalom Campus, aims to encourage more faculty members, researchers, scientists, and academic professionals to become part of NRCP’s growing network of experts. Through this initiative, DOST Western Visayas and NRCP seek to strengthen the region’s science, technology, and innovation ecosystem by expanding access to research collaboration, mentorship, funding opportunities, and support for basic research.

As of April 2026, the Western Visayas has recorded a total of 442 NRCP members, reflecting the continuing growth of the scientific and research community.
Ms. Kim Glaiza G. Wong, Science Research Specialist II of NRCP, served as the resource person during the campaign. She guided participants through the membership application process and introduced them to the Shared Knowledge Management System (SKMS) Portal, NRCP’s digital platform for membership application, profile management, and research-related services.

By bringing the TRAIN Membership Campaign closer to academic institutions in Aklan and Antique, DOST Western Visayas and NRCP reaffirm their commitment to building a stronger pool of accredited researchers in the region.
