OTS Sthrengthens Security at Key Transport Hubs in Malay, Aklan Through Inspections

Malay, Aklan- Passengers and visitors traveling to Boracay Island can expect continued efforts to improve safety and security at major transport gateways following the Office for Transportation Security’s (OTS) two-day security inspection of key facilities in Malay, Aklan, from July 30 to 31, 2026.

The inspection covered the Caticlan Jetty Port, Caticlan Bus Terminal, and Caticlan Airport, where the OTS team assessed existing security measures, identified operational gaps, and recommended improvements to further enhance the protection and efficiency of these vital transportation facilities.

Led by OTS Administrator Usec. Gilberto DC Cruz, the key OTS officials engaged with transport facility managers and stakeholders to discuss prevailing security concerns, strengthen coordination, and ensure the effective implementation of security protocols across the country’s air, land, and maritime transportation networks.

As part of efforts to foster stronger collaboration with local authorities, OTS Deputy Administrator Asec. Carlo D. Bala also paid a courtesy call on Malay Mayor Hon. Frolibar S. Bautista to discuss shared initiatives in advancing transportation security within the municipality.

The activity also included the formal turnover of Sungkal (Sasumata) to airport security authorities to enhance their capability in responding to incidents involving disruptive passengers. The OTS team likewise conducted a welfare check on airport security personnel to assess their operational readiness and provide support where needed.

The inspection underscores OTS’ continuing commitment in working with Local Government Units, transport operators, and other stakeholders in maintaining safe, secure, and resilient transportation hubs. These efforts are aligned with the directive of President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. to strengthen security across the country’s transportation system.
