KALIBO, Aklan- The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Aklan Chapter has urged the Department of Transportation (DoTR) to encourage more domestic flights at the Kalibo International Airport.
In its resolution addressed to the DoTR, the PCCI-Aklan noted that both the Philippine Airlines and the Cebu Pacific only have one inbound and outbound flights daily. Air Asia has 2 flights a day, four times a week during (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) and once every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The PCCI-Aklan noted that the nearby Caticlan Airport has around ten flights daily with most passengers are tourists were coming to Boracay.
The limited flights to Kalibo meant that the ticket prices were expensive, and the plane was almost always full of passengers. If the DoTR encouraged more flights to Kalibo, Aklanons and tourists would be encouraged to travel because it is now cheaper flights. It is helping the economy recover,” said the PCCI-Aklan.
The Department of Tourism-Western Visayas bared that the KIA is now being prepared to open for international flights for foreign tourists to be able to visit Boracay.
