PHILTOA and TPB Seal Partnership to Turn VolunTOURism Into Tourism Opportunity

Manila- The Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) and the Tourism Promotions Board Philippines (TPB) have strengthened their partnership to develop VolunTOURism as a meaningful and marketable niche in Philippine tourism.
The collaboration was formally sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the PHILTOA 4th General Membership Meeting on August 12, 2026, at Quest Hotel Alabang.
More than a ceremonial agreement, the partnership represents a continuing effort to transform VolunTOURism from a concept into an actionable tourism opportunity that combines travel with community engagement and social impact.
PHILTOA said it has been involved in the initiative from its early stages, providing conceptualization, mentorship, industry expertise and operational guidance toward its development and execution.
Through VolunTOURism, travelers are given opportunities to go beyond conventional sightseeing by participating in activities that allow them to engage with local communities, contribute to meaningful projects and experience destinations with a greater sense of purpose.
The partnership brings together the strengths of the two organizations. PHILTOA contributes its extensive tourism industry network, market knowledge and operational perspective, while TPB provides its mandate and platform for promoting the Philippines as a competitive and diverse tourism destination.
Together, the organizations aim to develop VolunTOURism into a purpose-driven tourism product capable of generating opportunities for destinations, local communities, tourism enterprises and travelers.
The initiative reflects a growing interest in tourism experiences that provide travelers with more meaningful connections to the places they visit. By integrating volunteer activities with travel, VolunTOURism can potentially create new tourism products while supporting communities and encouraging responsible destination engagement.
For PHILTOA, the partnership also underscores its role as an industry organization that works closely with both government and the private sectorโnot only to identify tourism opportunities but also to help develop and implement them.
The association emphasized that its role goes beyond signing agreements, highlighting its involvement from the initial idea through mentorship and ultimately toward implementation and measurable impact.
The PHILTOA-TPB collaboration therefore marks another step in positioning VolunTOURism as an emerging tourism opportunity in the Philippines.
