Traders of Fake MagicSarap Arrested

Cebu On July 4, 2026 at around 7:30 PM, the
CIDG Mandaue City Field Unit and Special Operations Team of CIDG Regional Field Unit 7 together with Regional Intelligence Unit 7 (RIU7) and representatives of Nestlé Philippines, Inc., and in coordination with territorial police units
conducted a law enforcement operation for violation of Republic Act No. 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) in Brgy. Subangdako, Mandaue City, Cebu that resulted in the arrest of five suspects; and the confiscation of 113 boxes of alleged counterfeit “Magic Sarap” seasoning products valued at PhP 542,400.00 and one Mitsubishi L300 van used to transport the products.

A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, the Director of CIDG, stated that the five suspects – 3 males and 2 females, all legal age, were arrested while trading and selling the alleged trademark infringing or counterfeit “Magic Sarap” seasoning products.

The CIDG Director emphasized that the State safeguards and promotes the welfare of the people by protecting consumers against unfair trade practices, particularly the proliferation of counterfeit products. He underscored the government’s firm commitment to upholding the exclusive rights of trademark owners and creators, thereby ensuring full respect for intellectual property rights. He further stressed that it is the policy of the State to strengthen the enforcement of intellectual property laws and related regulations throughout the Philippines.

The CIDG’s intensified operations is in compliance with the focused program thrust of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, POLICE GENERAL JOSE MELENCIO C NARTATEZ JR.

The CIDG leadership commends PCOL Rosell DM Encarnacion, the Regional Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 7, and the CIDG Mandaue City Field Unit led by PCPT Melvin S Mangahas for the accomplishment that underscores the unyielding stance of the CIDG against all forms of illegal trading and activities across the country.

The CIDG assures the public that it is resolute in enforcing all the laws to uphold the rights of all trademark owners, and2 to protect the consumers from counterfeit items and products. The Group urges the public to report all trademark infringing products and illegal activities in their localities- and the CIDG will do the rest.
