Ushering In A New Chapter Of Philippine-Japan Friendship Through Music

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay joined a special cultural evening welcoming Japanโs new Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency KITAGAWA Katsuro, held at the Japanese Ambassadorโs residence on October 9, 2026. The occasion also came as the Philippines and Japan mark 70 years of diplomatic relations.
The evening featured an exceptional performance by renowned Japanese classical violinist and educator Keiko Urushihara, together with Manila-based Japanese pianist Mariko Okeda and Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra (MSJO) faculty members Prof. Arnold Josue on cello and Ms. Sara Maria Gonzales on viola.
The DOT extends its warmest welcome and best wishes to Ambassador Kitagawa as he begins his diplomatic mission in the Philippines. We look forward to working closely with him to encourage more Japanese visitors to discover the Philippines and continue building on the friendship our two nations have shared for 70 years.
