𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐠, 𝐀𝐤𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐓 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬, 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐇𝐈-𝐂𝐈𝐃𝐒𝐒 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

MADALAG, Aklan- Community voices took center stage as 103 participants joined the first day of the Municipal Resilience Planning (MRP) of the KALAHI-CIDSS Area Coordinating Team in Madalag, Aklan, laying the groundwork for resilience investments based on risks identified by the community itself.

The activity was presided over by Madalag Mayor Rex Gubatina, chairperson of the Municipal Resilience Team (MResT). Of the 103 participants, 38 are members of the MResT, representing various sectors involved in the municipality’s resilience planning process.

The activity focused on developing a shared understanding of Madalag’s situation through the presentation of its Municipal Profile, led by Project Development Officer III Marilee Trombini.

Participants also reviewed the municipality’s risk mapping and consolidated Participatory Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (PRVA) results, giving the MResT a clearer picture of the hazards and vulnerabilities affecting communities.

For Alexander Ramos, a Barangay Resilience Team (BResT) member from Barangay Alaminos, the assessment provided a clearer picture of the actual conditions in their communities and could help guide local policies.

“It is good that we can now see the actual situation in our barangays. This will help us develop ordinances because we have identified the hazards and risks present in our communities. For example, we can consider regulations preventing additional houses or infrastructure from being built too close to rivers and streams, especially since we have seen how many houses are already exposed to these hazards,” Ramos said.

The discussions are expected to guide MResT in identifying and prioritizing potential community sub-projects that directly respond to risks and hazards identified through the participatory assessment.

The MRP will continue for the MResT works toward developing priorities anchored on local data, community experiences, and identified vulnerabilities.

Representing the KALAHI-CIDSS Regional Program Management Office (RPMO) was Community Development Officer II Evone Pendon, who presented the criteria for priority risk setting.

The MRP forms part of the Community Resilience Implementation Process (CRIP) under KALAHI-CIDSS’ Panahon ng Pagkilos: Philippine Community Resilience Project (PCRP), strengthening Madalag’s capacity to turn community-identified risks into concrete resilience actions./dswd6/fcsa
