The Department of Tourism (DOT) has formally entered into a preliminary agreement with major online travel agency Agoda, following a ceremonial exchange of the pre-signed memorandum of understanding that outlines potential cooperation set to leverage the digital platformโ€™s features to boost Philippine tourism.
Led by Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco on the sidelines of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (2026) on Thursday (Jan. 29), the meeting laid out future plans that will ensure the smooth operations and implementation of the projected partnership.
โ€œWe are great admirers of the work that you have done in Agoda, the innovations that you continue to infuse,โ€ Secretary Frasco said. โ€œThereโ€™s many opportunities for alignment, especially that now we are pushing for, we’re pushing for very specific tourism products.โ€
The MOU specifically sets out areas of cooperation that will incentivize accreditation of establishments with DOT, serving as a continuation of both partiesโ€™ efforts to promote the Departmentโ€™s Tourism Quality Seal during the pandemic.
Further, the preliminary agreement also enumerated potential partnerships in mounting capacity-building initiatives, supporting sustainable tourism practices, and launching coordinated marketing initiatives to attract more tourists coming to the Philippines.
