Roxas City- Twenty-five (25) ongoing Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholars in Capiz received goods assistance at DOST Capiz, following the recent typhoons Ramil, Tino, and Uwan. The initiative was implemented by DOST Western Visayas to support scholars and their families affected by the storms, helping ensure their well-being amid the aftermath of these disasters.
The relief packages included nutrition-packed solutions developed by DOSTโ€™s research institutes as NutriCookies from the DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) and Ready-to-Eat (RTE) Chicken Arroz Caldo from the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI). These products provided convenient, nutritious support, demonstrating how science and technology can directly address the needs of communities during times of crisis.
AmligSiyensya is a community outreach program initiated by DOST Western Visayas. The programโ€™s name combines two Hiligaynon words โ€” โ€œAmligโ€ and โ€œSiyensyaโ€. Amlig, meaning care or attention, reflects the agencyโ€™s commitment to supporting communities and sectors in need. Meanwhile, Siyensya, the Hiligaynon term for science, underscores the vital role of science and technology (S&T) in providing relevant and effective solutions to societal challenges.
โ€œThe relief goods given by the DOST was really a great help to me as it alleviated my family’s worries about food and necessities. During this time where money was really hard to come by because of my parents’ jobs, the relief goods are really much appreciated. I hope that DOST would continue this kind of activity as it is really a big help to people like us,โ€ Ian Chael F. Edomay, one of the scholars who received good assistance, expressed his gratitude.
Through the distribution, DOST Western Visayas sought to ease the immediate impact of the typhoons on the scholarsโ€™ daily lives and studies. DOST Western Visayas emphasizes that efforts like this are part of ongoing initiatives to support its stakeholders, particularly during times of crisis.
