A culinary journey through Filipino flavors welcomed delegates of the 40th Senior Officialsโ€™ Committee for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (SOCA) in a curated Gastronomy Tour of Makati City and Manila.
Jointly hosted by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the tour showcased the countryโ€™s rich heritage, diverse culinary tradition, and vibrant food culture as featured in a hearty breakfast at Manam Restaurant with its classic favorites tapsilog and bangusilog.
At Cabel Heritage Restaurant, a few steps from Malacaรฑang Palace, delegates had a taste of heirloom spread. Lunch was at Hapag Restaurant, where modern Filipino cuisine highlighted the creativity and dynamic identity of the countryโ€™s food culture.
Delegates savored every moment to engage with resident chefs and restaurant owners for a glimpse of stories, traditions, and innovations behind each dish.
Beyond the flavors, the tour offered a meaningful platform for cultural exchange, demonstrating how food reflects the Philippinesโ€™ rich history, diverse influences, and vibrant communities.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and DOT-NCR OIC Director Catherine Agustin were both present to welcome guests.
