KALINO, Allan – Twelve (12) grassroots innovations (GIs) addressing local challenges in Aklan were identified and documented through the SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Immersion, conducted by the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VI (DOST VI) and the Aklan Provincial S&T Office.
These GIs are community-based solutions that include livelihood innovations—such as weaving equipment, and textiles and natural dyes made from locally sourced plants,as well as the artisanal crafts such as the Talibong. The immersion identified four (4) innovations in Poblacion, Libacao; three (3) in Old Buswang, Kalibo; and five (5) in Poblacion, Kalibo.
The GIs will be reviewed by the Grassroots Innovation Technical Evaluation Committee (GITEC) to identify priority initiatives in Western Visayas for assistance through S&T interventions. This support for innovators and their GIs may include training, intellectual property (IP) services, technology funding, among other forms of assistance.
The SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Immersion is a key part of DOST’s GRIND Program, which aims to empower marginalized communities by supporting grassroots innovations and promoting sustainable development. This effort reinforces the GRIND Program’s commitment to fostering community-led solutions for sustainable growth. (KCPama/RDIMS)
