KALIBO, Aklan- The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Western Visayas is urging mayors in the province of Aklan to request food packs with them for those affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF).

The source, who requested anonymity and is based in the Iloilo Regional Office, told the Boracay Island News Network that they have yet to receive requests from the different mayors in Aklan for the needed food packs.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan has recently declared the province under state of calamity because of the ASF outbreak.

“We do not know how many people will be given food packs. The number of intended beneficiaries should be indicated in their request letter for us to know how many food packs will be distributed to their respective areas,” the source added.

A report said that more than a thousand pigs in the province have already been culled due to the ASF outbreak. Several residents have lost their income due to the infestation.

“We are ready to help those in need as soon as we receive a request from their respective LGUs or from the province,” the source added.
