Food manufacturers in Western Visayas strengthen food safety practices through HACCP training
Iloilo City- Food manufacturers in Western Visayas gained practical knowledge and hands-on experience in developing Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems through the “Introduction to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point” free public training conducted by the Department of Science and Technology Western Visayas (DOST Western Visayas).
The training, attended by various food manufacturers in the region, aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of HACCP principles and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to establish effective food safety management systems. It also prepared participating food manufacturers for the successful implementation of HACCP in their operations and their future pursuit of HACCP certification.
To reinforce learning, participants engaged in hands-on workshops where they formed HACCP teams, developed product descriptions, conducted hazard analyses, identified Critical Control Points (CCPs), established critical limits, and designed monitoring procedures. These practical exercises provided participants with valuable experience in applying HACCP principles and strengthened their confidence in implementing food safety systems within their respective organizations.
Leading the training were DOST Western Visayas food safety experts Ms. Jhoanna N. Bolencis, PFT, and Ms. Ailyn C. Casia, PFT, who shared their expertise and guided participants through the key concepts, principles, and practical applications of HACCP.
Through this initiative, DOST Western Visayas continues to empower local food manufacturers with the competencies needed to produce safe, high-quality food products that meet national and international food safety standards, further enhancing the competitiveness of the region’s food industry.
