Inside MakiSining’s Soursplash exhibit at UE Caloocan

Disgust usually makes us look away, but an art exhibition at the University of the East Caloocan invites visitors to lean in closer.

Running from July 23 to September 1, 2026, “Soursplash” brings together 15 active members and probationary artists from the MakiSining Art Group.

Hosted at the Chua King Ha Galleries, which is located on the 5th floor of the Tan Yan Kee Academic Building at UE Caloocan, the show explores how a simple biological urge to recoil shifts into a complex social filter that dictates how we categorize purity, fear, and belonging.

“Soursplash” is presented as part of the UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design Sangang-Daan (Crossroads) series.

Designed as a platform for mentorship and creative partnership, the series connects UE CFAD with its alumni, local creative groups, and the broader community.

Established in 2011 in Los Baños, Laguna, MakiSining is a collective dedicated to interdisciplinary practice. The group creates spaces for active dialogue and collaboration among visual artists, scientists, and cultural workers.

Serving as the primary exhibition space for UE Caloocan’s CFAD campus, the Chua King Ha Galleries function as a liminal space where emerging talent, alumni, and established traditions meet.

The exhibition framework uses the metaphor of “crossroads” to examine how personal history, physical space, and social commentary intersect. The curatorial direction behind “Soursplash” challenges viewers to question what society chooses to accept or alienate.
