“Malay to open its 2nd Balay Silangan Program”

Eleven personalities from Brgy. Balabag will be accomodated in Balay Silangan Reformation Center to be operated by the Municipal Government headed by Hon. Frolibar Bautista, Acting Mun. Mayor/MADAC Chairperson under the supervision of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

They will undergo screening and background investigation before acceptance.

Once accepted into the program, the drug reformists will undergo month-long general interventions such as continuing education and health awareness, and psychological/spiritual/physical activities, including counseling, moral recovery, values formation, personal and life skills, as well as livelihood and skills training programs to give reformers employment opportunities.

Balay Silangan, a community-based reformation program aimed at rehabilitating surrendered drug personalities, seeks to build temporary shelters for drug offenders with the objective of reforming them into self-sufficient and law-abiding members of society.

The intervention, treatment and rehabilitation program in the facility will be supervised by the Municipal Health Office headed by Dr. Athena Magdamit, Health Officer IV together with Mrs. Joan Victoriano, Focal Person and with the help from partner agencies: Malay PNP headed by PLTCOL DON DICKSIE L DE DIOS, COP, MSWDO headed by Ms. Jerre Mae Prado, OIC and Mrs. Jona Solano, PESO Officer.

Municipality of Malay has its 1st Batch of graduates from Balay Silangan Program last December 9, 2021. The 8 reformists from Brgy. Manocmanoc have successfully completed the first phase of the program and TWG continues to monitor their progress outside the program.

The success of the Balay Silangan Program in Malay only shows the efforts and commitment of LGU, BADACs, Agencies involved and the community in fighting the drug problem in the country.
