The Magic of Mayor Panambo

NEW WASHINGTON, Aklan- When Mayor Jessica Panambo was elected as the first term municipal mayor of New Washington, she immediately introduced her concept of introducing ‘Magical New Washington.’ That was in May 2022.

Almost two years later, the town of New Washington saw a great turn around. Adding to spice her concept in fulfilling her mission to make the town magical is her consistent battle cry ‘Pagbag-o’, ag ‘Displina’, an important ingredient to give her beloved town a magical touch.

The journey for Mayor Panambo was not easy.. painful at the beginning. Through the months of persistence, never giving up, Mayor Panambo in her recent speeches is now satisfied that indeed, the majority of New Washington residents now are disciplined.

At the same time,Mayor Panambo untiringly used her influence as a former successful businesswoman to lobby for multi million projects for the economic benefits of the residents.

For years, the town of New Washington is the center of oysters not only in Aklan but in the exclusive restaurants in Metro Manila Albeit, temporarily faced with red tide issues, Mayor Panambo again persisted.

Lately, Mayor Panambo launches the first ‘Bagsakan’ center in her town to provide fishermen a venue where they could come together to bring in their respective harvests.

This also makes the job easier for the local government to monitor the volumes of daily harvests ensuring quality and hoping that no one will be left behind.

As a huge bonus for the Bagsakan is a P180 million package reviving the Dumaguit Sea port to its former glory.

In 1980’s, the Dumaguit Port was the center of trade and commerce in the province. The said feat had never happened in more than 20 years, plummeting down the economy of New Washington from then excellent to moderate if not in poor level.

Panambo thanked the support of former Governor Florencio Miraflores, Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores, First District Congressman Carlito Marquez and Uswag Partylist Congressman James ‘Jojo’ Ang.

The said port revival with also the assistance of the Philippine Ports Authority has already been groundbreaked. It is scheduled to be operational by the middle term of next year.

In the PPA plan, the revival of Dumaguit Port would cater to cargoes, roro passenger vessels and a yacht cruise perhaps.

Because of her stewardship and sacrifices in the name of public service, investments started to come in.

Also last week, a multi million pesos MM Resort and Convention Center was opened at Sitio Malogo, New Washington, Aklan.

Mayor Panambo still has a year to serve her first term. We expect there will be more projects. to come making the town of New Washington soon to be a magical place to live in.
