
KALIBO, Aklan- The total population of Aklan as of July 1, 2024, reached 634,422, based on the results of the 2024 Census of Population conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Aklanโs population accounted for about 13 percent of the total population in Western Visayas, which is 4,861,911.
The provinceโs population increased by 18,947 from 615,475 in 2020, translating to an annual population growth rate (PGR) of 0.73 percent. It slowed down from the 1.45 percent PGR recorded during the period 2015 to 2020.
Of the 17 municipalities, Kalibo had the largest population in 2024, with 93,218 residents.
Its population increased by about 4,091 from 89,127 recorded in 2020.
The municipality of Malay followed with 64,723, Ibajay with 53,399, New Washington with 49,204, and Nabas with 41,568.
The combined population of these five municipalities accounted for about 47.6 percent of Aklanโs total population in 2024.
On the other hand, the towns of Lezo and Madalag had the smallest populations, with 16,200 and 19,043, respectively.
Meanwhile, out of 327 barangays in Aklan, Manoc-Manoc in Boracay Island, Malay, recorded the largest population, with 22,207 residents.
This was followed by Andagaw in Kalibo with 15,906, Poblacion in Kalibo with 12,276, Buswang New in Kalibo with 11,840, and Balabag in Malay with 11,275.
Conversely, Capataga (Malinao) had the smallest population with only 19 residents, followed by Tamokoe (Tangalan) with 136, Rivera (Ibajay) with 256, and San Isidro (Banga) and Cabugao (Ibajay) with 268 and 269, respectively.
By congressional district, the Eastern District had the largest population size, with 321,601, or about 50.7 percent of Aklanโs total population.
This district includes the municipalities of Kalibo (93,218), New Washington (49,204), Banga (41,188), Batan (33,932), Balete (30,310), Libacao (28,525), Altavas (26,181), and Madalag (19,043).
On the other hand, the Western District had a total population of 312,821.
It is composed of the municipalities of Malay (64,723), Ibajay (53,399), Nabas (41,568), Numancia (37,428), Makato (30,650), Malinao (24,971), Tangalan (24,004), Buruanga (19,878), and Lezo (16,200).
Among the provinces in Western Visayas, Iloilo Province (excluding Iloilo City) had the largest population, with 2,082,616, followed by the Province of Capiz with 835,098, and Antique with 643,173.
On the other hand, the Province of Guimaras posted the lowest population in 2024, with 192,874.
The 2024 population count was declared official by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on July 11, 2025, pursuant to Proclamation No. 973.
