
Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco sat down with the Philippine Delegation of the 49th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) on Monday, January 13, to discuss youth diplomacy and promoting Philippine tourism across ASEAN and Japan.
The Tourism Chief highlighted tourismโs role as a key economic driver. She mentioned tourismโs contributions to jobs, local livelihoods, and regional growth, while stressing the importance of infrastructure, connectivity, and responsive policies as key to its growth. Sec. Frasco said the โLove the Philippinesโ campaign places culture, heritage, and the stories of communities at the core of how the country is presented to the world.
With the Philippines preparing to host major ASEAN tourism engagements, including the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Cebu, Secretary Frasco encouraged the delegation to carry Filipino pride, foster understanding, and build lasting connections with fellow youth leaders across ASEAN and Japan, positioning tourism as a tool for unity, resilience, and nation-building.
Present during the courtesy visit were DOT Undersecretaries Shalimar Tamano, Verna Buensuceso, and Ferdinand Jumapao; Assistant Secretary Christine Cari; and Directors Atty. Glenn Ocampo, Azucena Pallugna, and Alex Macatuno, OIC Director, who joined the discussion in support of the Departmentโs youth and tourism development initiatives.
