Bacolod City- Celebrating the culinary excellence and talent across Asia and the Pacific region, the opening night of the first-ever Terra Madre 2025, hosted by the Philippines in Negros Occidental, marks a milestone for the country in positioning itself to be once again at the forefront of global gastronomy, following the successful inaugural selection of the Michelin Guide in the Philippines.
Delegates from the 26 participating countries across the region were welcomed with vibrant Filipino cuisine such as seafood, kakanin, organic fruits and vegetables, and heirloom recipes, along with cultural performances, setting the tone for a week of culinary activities during the welcome dinner in Bacolod City.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, a champion of Philippine gastronomy tourism, emphasized the importance of food in understanding a nationโ€™s identity and in celebrating the people, practices, and places that sustain food heritage and way of living.
โ€œWhat we protect today determines how our communities withstand tomorrow. And this is where tourism plays a meaningful role. Around the world, people discover the heart of a nation through its food. In the Philippines, our culinary heritage is inseparable from our landscapes and the resilience of our people. This is why the Department of Tourism has worked closely with partners to ensure that gastronomy is a pillar of our national tourism strategy,โ€ the tourism chief said.
Renowned chefs, farmers, and food visionaries in the Asia and the Pacific can look forward to immersive exhibits, engaging discussions, and tastings that highlight local ingredients and traditional farming practices during the five-day event.
The Terra Madre 2025 will not only honor the flavors and stories that shape Filipino identity but also aim to boost tourism and invite attendees to find even more reasons to “Love the Philippines” as they explore the rich and diverse traditions of Filipino world-class cuisines.
