Then, let us all hear your good stories. Be the light that inspires us to drive more meaningful change towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient future.
Our country, the Philippines is at the frontlines of the climate crisis. However, we are also a nation with innovative solutions and passionate advocates. This unwavering spirit is at the heart of the Kwentong Klima-likasan Recognition Awards, an initiative that celebrates exemplary efforts in climate change adaptation and mitigation across the country.
As the awards gain momentum, the DENR Climate Change Service and the Gender and Development Office are accepting entries for the Kwentong Klima-likasan Recognition Awards until September 26, 2025.
The Kwentong Klima-likasan Recognition Awards loves to highlight the initiatives, good practices, experiences, lessons learned and successful strategies of change makers within their communities. Entries to the Recognition Awards may be individuals, organizations and local government units who exerted efforts in addressing environmental issues, climate change and disaster risk reduction. It also seeks to recognize and honor initiatives that promote a net-zero green lifestyle by reducing our carbon footprint and encourages a more efficient and sustainable resource use.
The Kwentong Klima-likasan Recognition Awards is a support activity for the Global Good Stories Movement, which is a movement of people searching for stories of good people who are helping to take care of, protect, and restore the life sources of Land, Air, and Waters (LAW) in the Philippines and the world. The Good Stories Movement aims to identify the people behind them, highlight the good stories, and recognize and honor them for their contributions. Selected stories from the submissions to the Kwentong Klima- likasan will be officially communicated and submitted to the Good Stories Movement.
Good stories may include the promotion of net-zero lifestyle (including use of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and electric vehicles and biking) as well as reduced food waste and plant-rich diets; community livelihood development; integrated water resources management; coastal/upland protection; critical resilient infrastructure; climate/disaster information services; solid waste management; marine conservation; coastal governance; road-sharing and non-motorized mobility; edible landscaping and food gardens; eco-governance; environmental legislation; environment education; arts for the earth; youth leadership; gender equality and womenโs empowerment/leadership; environmental diplomacy; marine enforcement; renewable energy; cultural heritage;
lifetime efforts; beach restoration; rain gardens; environmental litigation; water use and recycling; and, rainwater harvesting facilities.
The Recognition Award Prizes for the 1 st Place is Php 30,000.00 (Individual Category); Php 40,000.00 (Group Category); Php 50,000.00 (LGU Category). The 2 nd Place would get Php 20,000.00(Individual Category); Php 30,000.00 (Group Category); Php 40,000.00 (LGU Category). There would be one Climate Technology for Resilience Award and Gender Equality and Womenโs Award with the following prizes: Php 10,000.00 (Individual Category); Php 20,000.00 (Group Category); Php 30,000.00 (LGU Category).
Individual Category is open to all Filipinos ages 18 and up and who are not elected officials of the government while the Group Category is open to all groups/organizations with at least 30 Filipino members. The Local Government Unit Category is open to all cities and municipalities in the country, regardless of income classification. Judging criteria includes: climate and disaster resiliency (60%); visual appeal of the photographs and video (20%); gender fair text and media (10%); and, geographical reach of the initiative (10%).
