Cebu City- Amid a steady recovery in travel flows, tourism ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Russian Federation welcomed the adoption of a new tourism cooperation work plan during the 5th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Russian Federation Tourism Ministers on Friday (Jan. 30).
The new ASEAN-Russian Federation Tourism Cooperation Work Plan sets the direction for joint tourism initiatives over the next five years, with focus on strengthening tourism resilience, improving travel facilitation, and advancing sustainable and digital tourism development.
In underscoring the importance of these priorities, Philippines Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco highlighted that rebuilding confidence remains central to sustaining tourism recovery.
โThe lesson of recent years is also clear: for tourism to rebound and truly flourish, confidence in travel must be built through reliability,โ the Tourism Chief said.
From the Philippine perspective, the DOT continues its efforts in strengthening tourism and cultural ties with the Russian Federation, such as supporting the recently-launched chartered flights from Russia to Kalibo, Russian language training for tour guides, and study-based travel programs.
In 2025, travel flows between ASEAN and the Russian Federation continued to improve, with Russia receiving 54,000 visitors from ASEAN Member States from January to September, while around 2.1 million Russian citizens traveled to ASEAN countries up to the third quarter of the same year.
