PAFC Aklan Pushes Food Security, Supports Swine Industry Recovery Through INSPIRE Project

KALIBO, Aklan- The Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council (PAFC)-Aklan is strengthening its commitment to food security and the recovery of the province’s livestock industry through the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Project – Swine Parent Stock.
On August 10, 2026, PAFC-Aklan formally endorsed the list of qualified farmer-beneficiaries for the Swine Parent Stock component of the INSPIRE Project to Aklan Provincial Governor Hon. Jose Enrique M. Miraflores.
The initiative is jointly implemented by the Agricultural Training Institute–Regional Training Center VI (ATI-RTV VI), IBON Multi-Purpose Cooperative (IBON MPC), PAFC-Aklan, and the Provincial Government of Aklan through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet).
The Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Councils (MAFCs) of Kalibo, Malinao, Numancia, Nabas, and Batan endorsed their respective qualified farmer-beneficiaries to PAFC-Aklan for validation and orientation.
The eligible Farmers’ Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) and individual beneficiaries endorsed by the MAFCs will undergo orientation and validation by PAFC-Aklan, IBON MPC, and OPVet to ensure that beneficiaries and their farms are prepared for the program.
PAFC-Aklan is also coordinating with OPVet-Aklan for site evaluations, biosecurity assessments, and farmer orientations. These measures are intended to ensure that participating farms comply with animal health, biosecurity, and safety requirements before the distribution of swine parent stock.
Meanwhile, on August 13, 2026, PAFC-Aklan conducted a Sectoral Meeting on Poultry and Livestock, bringing together stakeholders to discuss key requirements and preparations for the project.
Among the meeting’s agenda were the presentation of the Memorandum of Agreement between PAFC-Aklan and IBON MPC; the MOA between IBON MPC and the beneficiaries; swine cultural management and biosecurity; validation of housing and biosecurity readiness; and other matters concerning the implementation of the program.
The INSPIRE Swine Parent Stock Project is expected to help revive Aklan’s swine industry, provide livelihood opportunities for local farmers, strengthen the province’s livestock sector, and contribute to a more sustainable supply of pork.
For PAFC-Aklan, the initiative represents a continuing effort to promote cooperation among farmers, government agencies, cooperatives, and other agricultural stakeholders in pursuit of food security and a resilient agricultural economy in Aklan.
