Dear meta team!

I am writing as a journalist from the Southern Philippines to respectfully appeal for reconsideration regarding the repeated warnings issued to our Facebook pages over the use of the acronym “MILF.”

While we understand that this term is commonly associated with inappropriate or adult content in other contexts, please be informed that in the Bangsamoro Region, “MILF” refers to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front—a legitimate socio-political organization that played a critical role in the peace process and the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

As we prepare coverage for the region’s first regular elections, it has become increasingly difficult to publish accurate and respectful news content without being flagged or penalized by the platform. We’ve resorted to awkward workarounds such as spelling out the name repeatedly, which disrupts journalistic flow and consistency.

We kindly request that Meta consider implementing a context-aware moderation policy, especially for pages and users operating within or reporting about the Bangsamoro Region. Such a policy would greatly help us in our efforts to provide credible, localized journalism without fear of restriction.

Thank you for your understanding.

Regards,

Drema
