Drought affected farmers avail of TUPAD assistance

Maayon, Capiz- Around 200 farmers and farm workers from Brgy. Fernandez, Maayon, Capiz were assisted by the DOLE RO 6 as the severe drought caused by El Niño hampered the usual cycle of their crops and affected their livelihood and employment.

Through Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantage/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) , the beneficiaries were provided with emergency employment to mitigate the impact of the extreme weather. Each worker received a Php 4,800 wages for a 10-day community service rendered in their community.

Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. directed the Capiz Field Office to see to it that beneficiaries were protected from the scorching heat while rendering community service of rehabilitating public facilities and de-clogging of drainage.

 “We understand that due to prolonged and extreme dry season the farmlands dried up  and consequently, the farmers and farm workers lost their jobs,” said RD Rodriguez. “The alternative source of income we provided them means food for their table and an augmentation to their daily needs,” Atty. Rodriguez added.

A total of Php1,047,200 was disbursed for the wages, personal protective equipment and the GSIS Group Personal Accident Insurance of the beneficiaries.
