Boracay Island – The Boracay Island Producers Cooperative (BIPC) said it had produced a love potion which could be used as a drink to make women fall in love.
Maria Ninfa Desiree Segovia, BIPC chair said that they are calling it as loveanog, a fermented wine made from the coconut and juice of tropical flowers such as hibiscus and blue ternate.
The BIPC has hundreds of women members, mostly residents of this resort island.
“The loveanog has been fermented and made through the help of a chemist coming from the University of the Philippines,” Segovia said.
It is considered a love potion because when one drinks it, she will feel chill and will have an appetite to eat. The fermented wine has no hangover effect.
“At first, we tried to make it for tuba, however after our exploration of the product we decided to instead use lambanog,” Segovia said.
Ingredients used in the production of the said product came from the organic farm being maintained by the cooperative here. It was gathered that this product was one of the best selling products made by women of Boracay.
“Currently, our love potion is sold out. However, we are producing new stocks in time for Valentine’s Day,” Segovia said.
The BIPC started to produce the concept of introducing a love potion aa their means of alternative means of livelihood during the six months closure of Boracay in 2018.
Each 350 ml bottle are being sold in Boracay at P150. It has three flavors namely the: blue ternate infuse, gumamela infuse and the blue ternate.
In the past year, the BIPC received support from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Labor and Employment, Philippine Gaming Corporations (PAGCOR) among others.
