National Artist endorses Phillip Yerro Kimpo
Kalibo, Aklan- One of the nation’s foremost scholars, writers, and cultural administrators, National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario, strongly endorsed the candidacy of Kalibonhon poet-legislator Phillip Yerro Kimpo as the vice mayor of Aklan’s capital town.
Dr. Almario has served as Chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Chairman of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF), and Dean of the UP Diliman College of Arts and Letters, among other important roles.
Honorable Kimpo, on the other hand, is a multi-awarded public servant and writer. He was named as one of the countryโs โNine Millennial Politicians to Watch For,โ along with Vico Sotto and other personages, in 2016.
“Kalibo needs Phillip Yerro Kimpo as its Vice Mayor,” Dr. Almario said in Filipino during his recent forum and book launch in Kalibo.
P.Y.Kimpo was also featured as one of the country’s 20 “great leaders” in a book by a Germany-based foundation in 2021, along with the late Jesse Robredo. He was named as an Icon of Western Visayas in 2022.
P.Y.Kimpo’s body of work and advocacies have been featured on various international and national quad-media. He is the author of 10 books and has won national awards for his literary works.
A graduate of UP Diliman’s College of Engineering and a former child actor, P.Y.Kimpo was formerly an editor-in-chief at ABS-CBN in Manila. He is currently the Number 1 Councilor of Kalibo, Aklan.
