KALIBO, Aklan- The largest round of the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) is currently underway in Aklan, covering 96 sample enumeration areas (EAs) to collect data that will serve as inputs for various government initiatives, including economic planning, policymaking, and poverty monitoring.
An enumeration area is a delineated geographic unit that may consist of an entire barangay or a portion of it, typically comprising about 350 to 500 households.
For this survey round, a total of 1,554 sample households across the province were selected and proportionately distributed based on the size of each enumeration area.
Among Aklanโs 17 municipalities, Kalibo had the highest number of samples with 248 households, representing about 16.0% of the total. This was followed by Ibajay with 141 (9.1%), New Washington with 140 (9.0%), Makato with 131 (8.4%), and Malay with 103 (6.6%).
Other municipalities and their corresponding sample sizes include Balete with 93 (6.0%), Tangalan with 90 (5.8%), Nabas with 87 (5.6%), Malinao with 82 (5.3%), Altavas with 72 (4.6%), Numancia with 65 (4.2%), Buruanga with 55 (3.5%), and Batan with 50 (3.2%).
The smallest sample sizes were allocated to the municipalities of Madalag with 31 (2.0%), Libacao with 35 (2.3%), and Lezo with 39 (2.5%).
To facilitate data collection, PSA Aklan deployed 50 trained statistical researchers, supervised by five team leaders.
They are using tablets to record respondentsโ answers in order to efficiently process the collected information.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Aklan Provincial Office is appealing to all selected households to provide truthful and reliable information during the interviews, emphasizing that quality statistics depend on honest and accurate responses in order reflect the true socio-economic conditions of the province.
Likewise, the PSA assures respondents that all information gathered in this survey will be treated with strict confidentiality and will not be used for legal or taxation purposes, in accordance with existing laws.
โThere is nothing to worry about for respondents in providing information to our data collectors. Their identities will remain confidential, and all data will be published in statistical tables without reference to any individual,โ said Chief Statistical Specialist Antonet Catubuan.
The FIES is being conducted in conjunction with the 3rd Quarter Labor Force Survey to update the countryโs most recent employment statistics.
