OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental| Tension filled the air at the Ozamiz Airport Monday morning as a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight encountered mechanical trouble while taxiing on the runway—forcing an emergency halt and the eventual cancellation of the flight. According to accounts from passengers, the aircraft had just landed and was maneuvering toward the terminal building when it abruptly stopped.

The pilot reportedly informed passengers of a steering failure, preventing the aircraft from proceeding to its parking bay. “Igo ra’g naka-land, then pag-tuyok na, nadaot na daw ang steering,” shared one passenger.

“Pero sa pag-taxi pa lang nato sa Manila murag naa na gyud toy tingog… mura’g kagolkol,” the passenger added, raising concerns that early signs of mechanical issues might have been overlooked. While some passengers initially believed the plane was preparing for takeoff again, it was later clarified that the incident occurred during the final taxiing phase, just a short distance from the terminal building.

Ground personnel and airport authorities acted swiftly to secure the scene and assist disembarking passengers. No injuries were reported, but the incident led to delays and temporary disruption of airport operations. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and PAL’s technical team are now conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the issue.

Preliminary reports are looking into possible connections between the Ozamiz incident and the earlier unusual noise reportedly heard during the aircraft’s taxiing in Manila. As of this writing, PAL and CAAP Ozamiz has not issued an official statement regarding the extent of the damage or whether further flights will be affected. ‘

Affected passengers have been advised to coordinate with the airline for rebooking and assistance. This developing story will be updated as more details become available.
