The Boracay Women Producers Cooperative (BWPC) is confident that the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) will certify three of their food organic products soon.
Desiree Segovia, chair of the BWPC said that the three products are Sarasara Coffee, Rima Chips and the Flower Teas. The Sarasara coffee is made of black rice, which is reportedly common in the town of Malay.
The FDA approval is part of the preparation of the BWPC on anticipating the influx of international tourists. The Department of Tourism recently announced that the Philippines is now open to receive international tourists coming from green countries.
“The products, if approved by the FDA, would boost our income especially now that we are still struggling to recover from the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic.” Segovia said. It was learned that the BWPC is now on their 80 percent completion in complying with the required FDA certification.
The BWPC which has more than 1,000 women residing in Boracay were being assisted by the different government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism, Department of Labor and Employment among others. “We also hope that tourists will patronize locally made products in Boracay to help our residents recover from pandemic,” she added.
