CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI) shared its initiatives in artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure during the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI) Annual Conference held from August 12 to 13, 2026.
Speaking before industry leaders and stakeholders, CARD MRI Founder and Chairman Emeritus Dr. Jaime Aristotle B. Alip emphasized how adopting AI and technology strengthens risk management, builds disaster resilience, and secures the financial well-being of microfinance clients nationwide.
Grounding his address in the conference theme, “From Recovery to Resilience: Shaping the Next Chapter of Philippine Microfinance,” Dr. Alip outlined how the organization is preparing its 3,866 offices nationwide for future natural disasters and public health crises.
He highlighted that true resilience relies on targeted investments in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and human capital. CARD MRI’s digital systems now enable seamless remote transactions, while new specialized roles, such as AI Project Managers, can unlock AI’s potential to streamline operations and risk management. The organization also continues to train its next generation of leaders
in resilient governance and crisis management.
Dr. Alip also highlighted several digital solutions CARD MRI developed to make financial services more accessible to more than 10 million Filipinos nationwide. These include konek2CARD, a mobile banking application that allows users to manage accounts, transfer funds via InstaPay, and pay bills digitally; CARD Sulit Padala, an affordable nationwide remittance network for fast cash transfers and direct account deposits; and CARD OttoKonek, a digital merchant platform designed for microentrepreneurs and sari- sari store owners to order wholesale inventory, track sales, and accept cashless QR payments.
“Resilience is not just about surviving a crisis; it is about โshaping the next chapterโ of microfinance to drive sustainable growth for the Filipino people,” said Dr. Alip.
The conference also featured insights from other industry leaders, including Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Assistant Governor Pia Bernadette Roman-Tayag, Kasanyangan Microfinance Foundation President and CEO Mercedes G. Faustino, Internal Auditor Jomar Dorado, and Rafael “Rapa” Cojuangco Lopa, among others.
The two-day event ended with stakeholders reaffirming the importance of building a microfinance sector that can adapt to changing conditions while continuing to serve Filipino communities through technology, responsible financial services, and sustainable practices.
“As Philippine microfinance evolves, CARD MRI remains committed to using digital tools to empower communities and support sustainable growth for millions of Filipino families,” Dr. Alip concluded.
