Chinese-Filipino community in Kalibo remembers their forefathers through exhibit

KALIBO, Aklan- A group of Chinese-Filipino community here has remembered their ancestors through a public exhibit in time for the Chinese New Year celebration.
Kalibo Mayor Juris Bautista-Sucro said the exhibit at Rizal Street here starts February 15-17.
The Rizal Street is where the Chinese-Filipino stayed here for centuries.
Sucro said Kalibo has the oldest ancestry of Chinese-Filipino in Panay Island. Proof of which is the Kalibo town has the oldest Chinese-Filipino cemetery compared to its neighboring provinces such as Iloilo, Antique and Capiz.
‘The Chinese New Year in Kalibo is now on its third year. We are coordinating with the Chinese-Filipino connunity how we could improve our celebration,” Bautista said.
Earlier, the Sanguniang Bayan of Kalibo has filed a resolution for the establishment of the Chinese-Filipino Friendship Arc in this town famous for ati-atihan.
Aside from the family photo exhibit, the Kalibo LGU also celebrated the New Year thru Food Fair, Lion Dance presentation among others
