KALIBO, Aklan- Strengthening its commitment to inclusive development, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)Field Office VI, through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), conducted an orientation on livelihood assistance for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Aklan Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Nalook, Kalibo, Aklan.
The initiative aims to ensure that even individuals in confinement are not left behind in accessing opportunities for economic participation. The activity brought together Aklan BagHay Inc., a non-government organization that initiated the request for support, and the Integrated Rehabilitation and Security Unit (IRSU), which manages the facility.
During the orientation, DSWD6 SLP presented a tailored approach in implementing livelihood assistance for PDLs, guided by a modified framework that considers their unique situation. SLP Regional Program Coordinator Juliet D. Besa, along with Regional Partnership Officer Elmer Jamolin, Aklan Provincial Coordinator Rovi Christine V. Gonzales, and Provincial Partnership Officer Glory Mae P. Panase, led the discussion.
Besa emphasized that the program goes beyond providing livelihood assistance by promoting dignity, inclusion, and second chances. By integrating psychosocial support with economic development, the initiative prepares PDLs for reintegration and empowers them to rebuild their lives upon release.
This collaborative effort between DSWD6 SLP, Aklan BagHay Inc., and IRSU highlights a shared goal of breaking barriers to opportunity and fostering a more inclusive society where no one is left behind./dswd6/cdf/Glory Mae Panase
