It is demeaning to a child, immoral, and a plain act of abuse and exploitation.
The National Authority for Child Care (NACC) urges caution against the proliferation of fakebnews on the supposed discovery of a foundling or a supposed abandoned child with no known facts of birth or parentage only to capitalize on a childโs vulnerability and gain social media traction.
Fake news is deceit. No individual, social media account, or fake news peddler for this matter, should take advantage and profit from a childโs situation under the guise of freedom of speechand of expression, or the freedom of information.
This social media trend is a step backward on the policy and efforts of the Government to accord full respect for the life and dignity of a child. R.A. 11767 or the โFoundling Recognition and Protection Actโ mandates that the discovery of a foundling be treated with due diligence and utmost respect for their dignity and human rights.
Fake news on foundlings further demeans the Stateโs role to protect and promote the right of every child to a safe, loving, and permanent family through administrative adoption and alternative child care.
Further, any false information misguiding the public, Prospective Adoptive Parents and our partners and advocates serves as a barrier in their courage and efforts in providing hope and home for every child. They deserve no less than a recognition for their heroism.
May we then encourage interested individuals wanting to adopt or foster a child to visit our Regional Alternative Child Care Offices (RACCOs) https://www.nacc.gov.ph/raccos/ strategically located nationwide or visit the official NACC website https://www.nacc.gov.ph/ and Facebook page: National Authority for Child Care (Nacc); or call our hotline (+63) 917-322-6222 (NACC).
