The Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) Secretariat wishes to clarify recent news articles and social media posts claiming that certain mayors are already members of our organization.
While it is true that some mayors have applied for membership or expressed their interest to our convenors, this does not automatically make them members of M4GG. All applicants undergo a rigorous background check conducted by our Membership Committee.
The information gathered from this background check is presented to our convenors and cross-referenced with the data they already have on the applying mayors. This meticulous process ensures that all M4GG members uphold our commitment to good governance.
We previously announced the 51 new observers on August 30, 2025. We will make another official announcement regarding new observers on September 30, 2025. Furthermore, incumbent mayors who joined between 2023 and 2025 are also undergoing the same process, and their membership status will be announced in the future.
We’d like to caution the public to be careful about articles or posts that prematurely claim a mayor is an M4GG member.
We understand that many mayors aspire to be part of M4GG, but we remind everyone that there is a proper process to follow. We encourage them to wait for the official announcement of new members.
We thank the public for their continued support of M4GG’s causes.
